The pop icon is making her highly anticipated musical return with a new EP titled “Nashville Canyon,” set to be released on March 21. To celebrate this new chapter, Simpson has shared the lead single from the project, “Use My Heart Against Me.” This track marks a significant shift in direction for her career as she moves away from pop music and embraces elements of Americana and soul.
In creating “Nashville Canyon,” Simpson collaborated with notable musicians including Fancy Hagood, Natalie Hemby, Lucie Silvas, and Trent Dabbs. These sessions took place in Nashville, Tennessee. Through this project, the star aims to overcome a series of personal challenges, particularly her recent separation from longtime husband Eric Johnson.
“Ive lived through the hardest parts of life,” Simpson said about her new EP in a press statement. “Music is what has brought me back.” She explained that Nashville Canyon speaks to those who have been told how they should live their lives and emphasizes finding one’s true voice with the courage to be authentic.
“Music makes you un-become to become,” Simpson continued, describing how it helps her rediscover herself. “Through this process my soul has been pulled back home. This music is mine to share, but its also about everyone who feels lost or overlooked. I want them to know theyre not alone.”
Simpson’s last musical release was her 2009 holiday album, “Happy Christmas.” Throughout her career, she has dropped seven studio albums since releasing her debut project in 1999 titled “Sweet Kisses.”
The second part of Nashville Canyon is scheduled for early summer 2025. Fans can listen to the lead single, “Use My Heart Against Me,” below.
