Many podcast hosts would jump at the opportunity to have Taylor Swift as a guest, but Monica Lewinsky believes that her show, Reclaiming, would be an excellent fit for the pop superstar.
During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert earlier this week, Lewinsky spoke about starting her new podcast and explained why she thinks Taylor Swift could be the perfect guest. “The act of reclaiming is really about getting something back that has been lost or taken from you,” Lewinsky told Colbert when asked about her show’s title.
When it comes to identifying a potential white whale for the podcast, Lewinsky expressed hope that she would one day have Taylor Swift on as a guest. “If I aim really high, I would say Taylor Swift,” she replied, acknowledging that it may be difficult to secure an interview with such a busy and popular artist.
However, Lewinsky believes that Swift’s ongoing project of re-recording her first six albums through the “Taylor’s Version” initiative makes her a great fit for Reclaiming. “If you think about Taylor’s Versions,” she explained, “its really a reclamation.” She went on to note how Swift has taken back ownership of her music catalog following her public dispute with former label Big Machine over control of her masters.
Lewinsky herself is well-versed in the concept of reclaiming. After enduring years of harassment and public shaming due to her scandal with then-president Bill Clinton, she has become a vocal advocate for anti-bullying efforts and the impact of public shame on individuals. Her TED Talk from 2015 went viral, highlighting these issues.
Taylor Swift is no stranger to similar struggles. Throughout her career, she has opened up about how slut-shaming and other forms of online harassment have impacted her work as an artist. This shared experience makes them potential ideal guests for each other’s shows.
As for Taylor Swift’s remaining albums in the “Taylor’s Version” project, she still has two left to release: Reputation (2017) and her 2006 self-titled debut album. The pop superstar is expected to continue working on these projects as part of her ongoing effort to reclaim ownership over her music catalog.
