New LA Burger Joint Opens to Honor the Late Nipsey Hussle

Nipsey Hussle performs on stage at Staples Center on June 23, 2018, in Los Angeles.

March 31 will mark six years since Nipsey Hussle was murdered outside his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles. In honor of the late rapper’s legacy, The Marathon (Brand) is set to open a new location: Marathon Burger on Melrose Avenue.

The official grand opening of Marathon Burger is scheduled for March 1, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony planned at noon Pacific Time. As part of their tribute, the first 100 customers will enjoy free meals during this event.

“The Marathon team is excited to expand the brand into the restaurant industry here in L.A.,” said The Marathon (Brand) team in a statement. “When Nipsey birthed The Marathon Brand with his mixtape in 2010, our goal was always to develop it into a full lifestyle brand covering music, fashion, food/hospitality, and entertainment. This opening is another step toward realizing Hussle’s vision.”

March will be an especially busy month for the Neighborhood Nip Foundation as their charity partner in the Los Angeles Marathon.

In partnership with The Marathon Burger and The Marathon Clothing stores, a team of runners will participate in this year’s L.A. Marathon on March 16.

Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed outside his store on March 31, 2019, at the age of 33 years old. His killer, Eric R. Holder Jr., was sentenced to life imprisonment in January following his conviction for first-degree murder charges.
