WNBA star Cameron Brink likely never anticipated that a response to a red-carpet question would one day become the highlight of her life. During the WNBA draft last April, Complex asked all participants to choose between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, and Brink stood out by selecting Kendrick Lamar over Drake.

Cameron explained that she received a revelation about her choice on a recent episode of her Straight to Cam podcast. At the USC and Notre Dame women’s basketball game in November, an alleged Kendrick Lamar associate approached her with his adorable daughter. The man mentioned that Kendrick had noticed Brink was the only one who chose him at the draft question time and wanted to express his admiration for her skills as a player.
“When we were on the orange carpet during the WNBA draft, someone asked us which rapper between Kendrick Lamar and Drake we preferred,” she said. “Everybody else picked Drake, but I went with Kendrick.”
Brink continued: “A while ago at the USC-Notre Dame game, this guy came up to me with his cute daughter. He told me he works with Kendrick and that the Compton rapper had seen a clip of my podcast episode where I chose him over Drake. The man said Kendrick was so impressed by my choice that he wanted to thank me personally, calling himself a fan.”
While Lamar tends to keep his social media presence low-key, it seems he still keeps an eye on what is being said about him in pop culture. Perhaps the Compton rapper will show up at an L.A. Sparks game next season when Brink returns from her torn ACL injury.
Lamar is currently riding high in 2025 as his song “Luther,” featuring SZA, topped this week’s Billboard Hot 100 chart. This marks Lamar’s sixth No. 1 hit and SZA’s third.
